I was out sitting in my steamer chair the other day and I fell asleep in it. It might not have been so bad except for the fact that when I woke up my butt was killing me. Steamer chairs are great, but they do need a cushion to ease the pressure on the seat of your pants as well as for the back. Teak and other types of wood can be very hard on the old bones when there is nothing between you and the wood.

With that being said, it is pretty much obvious that I need a cushion for my steamer chair. Another thing that you need to check out closely is what type of material the covering is made of.  You’ll find that some of the materials used which are more resistant to the weather are not as comfortable as the fabrics that are not so resistant to the elements. So if you don’t mind putting your steamer chair cushion away after each use, you might want to consider one of the materials that are softer to the touch as opposed the the more water and weather resistant ones.

If you have done a lot of sunbathing, then you know that oftentimes there is a lot of sweat involved. If this is one of your planned uses for the steamer chair then you will also want to make sure that the cover over the cushion is either waterproof so you can clean it easily, or make sure that the cover can be removed and stuck in the washing machine.
